Wharton State Forest
20 minute drive
Encompassing over 124,000 acres, Wharton State Forest is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System. Rivers and streams suitable for kayaking/canoeing can be found throughout, along with hiking trails (including a major section of the Batona Trail) and unpaved roads for mountain biking and horseback riding. Wharton State Forest’s numerous rivers, ponds, and fields are also ideal for wildlife observation.
Parvin State Park
25 minute drive
Located just under five miles west of Vineland, New Jersey and about 40 miles south of Philadelphia, Parvin State Park is a true hidden gem of the region. Nestled just outside the edge of the Pine Barrens, the park combines rich history with abundant natural beauty.
Parvin State Park features campsites, cabins, and a lifeguard-staffed swimming beach on Parvin Lake — making it an ideal destination for both day trips and extended stays. The park offers about 15 miles of multi-use trails perfect for walking, jogging, or biking, along with two lakes — Parvin Lake and Thundergust Lake — and Muddy Run stream for canoeing and kayaking.
ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK
90 minute drive
Island Beach State Park is a pristine 10-mile undeveloped barrier island in Ocean County, New Jersey. Located south of Seaside Park, it offers untouched white sand beaches, maritime forests, and excellent surf fishing, making it a quiet alternative to bustling Jersey Shore boardwalks.
